Romanticizing the Ordinary: How I Turn Everyday Chaos into Core Memories
If you walked into my house on a random Sunday, you probably wouldn’t think, “Wow, this is magical.”
You’d see dishes in the sink. A laundry basket that’s been “almost folded” for two days. Four beautiful cat supervisors following me from room to room. An iced coffee sweating on the counter while I remake it for the third time.
But here’s the thing I’ve learned lately:
Magic doesn’t live in perfect moments. It lives in perspective.
For a long time, I felt like I was waiting for the “big” things, vacations, holidays, special events, etc., to feel fully alive. I’d rush through regular days just trying to get to bedtime. And one day it hit me… this is my life. These regular Sundays? They’re the story.
So I started romanticizing the ordinary. Not in a fake, everything-is-perfect way. But in a gentle, intentional way.
I light a candle while I fold laundry. I use the good glass for my afternoon iced coffee. I turn on music while I clean instead of doom-scrolling. I open the windows even if it’s just for fifteen minutes.
Suddenly, chores feel less like chores and more like care. Care for my home. Care for my family. Care for myself, and my soul.
Even decluttering now feels like a reset instead of a punishment. When I clear a counter or donate a bag of things we don’t use, it’s not about perfection. It’s about breathing room. It’s about choosing peace over chaos.
And the funny part? Hubby don’t remember the spotless house… He will remember popcorn nights on the couch and running errands together and calling it an “adventure.”
Core memories aren’t expensive. They’re intentional.
They’re the way you look at your life when you decide it’s worth enjoying right now — not ten pounds from now, not when the house is finished, not when the schedule calms down.
Right now.
Life with Misty isn’t about having it all together. It’s about finding the softness in the middle of the mess. It’s about iced coffee refills, cat cuddles, free family fun, and choosing gratitude even when the laundry multiplies overnight.
So here’s your reminder (and mine):
You don’t need a vacation to create magic, you don’t need a highlight reel to have a beautiful life… You just need to look at the ordinary and decide it matters.
Because one day, these random Sundays will be the days we miss the most.
